Cozy Fall Home Inspiration: Original Art, Pumpkins and Hydrangeas

Happy September, friends! I hope you are having a lovely month so far. Here in Ohio, we’ve been lucky to have the dreamiest fall weather. It has been cool, breezy and full of sunshine. It feels like the perfect way to welcome autumn.

Life has been busy as school is officially in full swing! I recently started my 22nd year of teaching high school art, which still amazes me. During the week, I am based at our home on the mainland. Most weekends we head to our island home, a project we have been working on for the past four years. If you would like to see how our little island home is coming along check last’s month blog post here.

This weekend was a little different. I stayed home with my daughter so she could enjoy a fun birthday sleepover! Normally, I do not spend too many weekends at home until winter. We are at the island every weekend until the ferries stop which is the end of November. While I love island life, it was such a treat to slow down, stay local and enjoy a weekend at home.

I decided to decorate for fall since I was home and wanted to share some inspiration for you and also some autumn- inspired art that I am putting on my website if you would like to bring a piece home. I have been decorating mostly with my limelight hydrangeas which have been absolutely gorgeous recently! They are beginning to shift into soft pink and green tones which are the perfect transition into the fall season. To bring in more seasonal charm, I added darling white pumpkins from our local market. Paired with the hydrangeas, they create a soft, coastal-inspired fall decor. It feels so simple yet it is so festive. There is something so joyful about creating a comforting autumn atmosphere. I have been lighting my favorite fall candles, putting on my seasonal playlist and enjoying the warm, welcoming decorations each evening after work. It is the little things like this that make me happy especially after a crazy busy day at work.

My living room is looking festive with the limelights and pumpkins.

A latte and a favorite art book brings me so much joy! Fairfield Porter is one of my favorite artists and this book has many gorgeous photos of his work.

This weekend I actually had a quiet moment to curl up on my couch with a latte and one of my favorite art books about the artist Fairfield Porter. It gives me so much inspiration looking through fun coffee table books and I also think they are wonderful for styling on a coffee table.

Inspired by these moments, I wanted to share a couple of my own autumn-inspired paintings that are currently available. These pieces feature some of my favorite color palettes of soft green, warm peach and calming blues which are drawn from the gorgeous Midwest landscapes that surround me. Each artwork was created to bring a touch of calm and beauty into your home. If you are interested you can find them here.
